Framed Size 24"x24"
I decided to create another piece that would be mounted in an acrylic box for this piece. When I mount a piece in acrylic the first thing I need to create is the background fabric that the box will be mounted on. For this piece I used a toffee colored linen with hundreds of equestrian icons embroidered on them. Once the icons were finished being embroidered the fabric was wrapped on a board and set aside until the box was completed. For this piece I wanted to create a giant horse head silhouette using the Hermes Pom-Pom's. I use Hermes scarves in my larger pieces. The idea for the luxury boxes started out because of the amount of boxes that were stacked in the studio. I took the scraps from the scarves and created small Pom-Poms by stuffing the small scarf pieces in cotton. After filling a few drawers with Pom-Poms it was time to start the piece. I started by embroidering the same icons that are on the background onto the box except this time in a burnt orange that matches the box color. Once the embroidery was finished hundreds of holes were punched in the top of box and the Hermes Pom-Poms were inserted into the holes and glued into place. The Pom-Pom colors I used were a mix of powder blues and soft pastel hues that came from an assortment of different Hermes scarves.
